Portrait of a suit of armor c1530

Drawing armor is surprisingly fun. This suit of armour is also from the 1500s. I really like Artrage’s oil brush tool. It is very flexible. I will try the watercolors next.

I messed up a little on the plate on right side, the breast plate could use some refining. Setting a time limit is both a blessing and a curse, It helps you focus on what is important and vital to the piece which makes you faster but also forces you to leave things out as well. A true Catch 22

For my research I was having difficulty finding a person wearing a helmet on wikimedia but I found plenty of images with suits of armor in museums. I know it’s more of a still life then a portrait due to no one actually wearing the armor . But since the helmet is something a person would wear over his/her head and it would cover the face anyway so I am making a exception and including them with my portraits.  the photo I used as a reference is here http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WLA_cma_Suit_of_armor_c_1530_steel_.jpg

Non art related.  I remember as a kid watching a animated feature film about OZ, I found out what it was called. ‘Journey Back to OZ‘. Unfortunately Gregg Rolie or Steve Perry are not in this movie :D.  It was created by the same animation company the did ‘Masters of the Universe’. I kid you not. I watched a segment of it on Youtube, I remember it being much better. It has mandatory cheesy songs. One was with a signpost singing about how he has no clue where he is. I kid you not (x2). Nostalgia can be a cruel mother. It DOES get bonus points due to having a humanoid pumpkin guy. I currently have no interest in seeing the new OZ movie.  I think it’s the sarcastic winged monkey. I kid you not (x3000)

  1. I kinda wanna see Oz. I don’t think there are any monkeys in the new one. That’s the reason I didn’t see the old one. I hate monkeys. Especially the creepy ones in Baskerville.

    1. unfortunately Oz the Great and Powerful does have a winged monkey. I saw it in a trailer. He talks to Oz about not stereotyping himself as one that likes bandannas because he’s a monkey.
