I am working on a retelling of a illustration I did about 5 months ago http://maugryph.deviantart.com/art/A-warrior-confronts-a-dragon-that-is-hungry-348927571. This time I made the dragon massive, it’s head taking most of the picture itself. I have been experimenting with custom brushes. This painting will have two light sources, on from above and one from the warrior’s torch.
A man confronts a monster 10x his size. Not too bright in the light department. Here is the painting so far, it’s got a ways to go. Strangely enough I am juggling three different illustrations at once. Let me know what you think of this rough so far.
For every illustration and and painting I do, my goal is to do better then my last painting, no matter how small. I also been doing regiment of lighting studies and drawing figures daily. A awesome practice site for drawing figures is here http://artists.pixelovely.com/. give it a shot if you need some figure practice and cant afford a model (nothing beats a real model but this is good practice regardless).
Photoshop. I have no clue how much time I’ve spent, I was experimenting with brushes and undo and redoing brush stokes. I lost track of time. A hour, maybe two?
