Painting of Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberpatch

I wanted to paint a portrait of Mr Cumberbatch when I saw him play Khan in the last Star Trek.  You might know him in the BBC show “Sherlock“, the modern Sherlock Holmes adaptation. It took about 3 hours. Painting was done entirely in Photoshop with Wacom Tablet.

The  photos I used for reference I found on Wikimedia (CC), I leaned more toward his Sherlock hairstyle.

After doing a mess of speed paintings, my portfolio shouted in agony “you fool, FINISH your paintings for pete’s sake”. Always listen to your portfolio.. or it might attack you when your asleep in bed.

I pre ordered Amnesia: The Michine for Pigs. It’s out now. It’s very late. I don’t know it I should start it tonight. :O

Let me know what you think of the painting.

  1. I think its definitely one of your better ones! I like the dark shadows and the depth it has more over other portraits you did. It does have a bit of a cartoonish hint to it (around the cheeks), but i think it really suits it and it looks awesome!
