I consider this my first ‘finished’ fantasy painting. I worked on it off and on for a month I spent a 7-9 hours total on this image. Originally it was going to be a watercolor painting but due to the fact that I totally screwed up on it and thankfully I had a scan of the pencil drawing on the watercolor paper before started painting on it. I was able to start anew in Photoshop. The story is simple, after a long day of travel a mage and her dragon companion/steed rest on the cliff side, watching the sunset. I know its not going to set the fantasy world on fire but I learned so much from painting this freaking image.
Self Critique: some of the area are still a little rough. I might smoothed them out. I just realized I forgot to render the smoke coming out of the dragon’s nostrils, I will update this post when I fixed it. I felt like I should of put a building on top of the mesa in the distance.Photoshop: 7 to 9 hours
Looks great! It looks good without a building but would’ve added something different. A castle?
That’s a good possibility. thank you for the suggestion 🙂
Your drawing made me wish for my own dragon 🙂
Thanks you. It would be very cool to have a large, fire breathing, flying steed.
🙂 🙂
