See the 3d model in real-time: https://skfb.ly/JAVN

Today’s daily is sculpt of Deathwing from World of Warcraft. One of his unique features is his metal mandible.I decided to look up the official concept art for the dragon and try my hand at sculpting his head. Some adjustments had be made after an hour in I discovered that there where some alterations to the official model and made adjustments to match. Some versions show him with more rivets on the lower mandible, some don’t. After a hour and a half, my PC crash and I lost about 15 minutes of work and decided to just upload my last save.

I might polish the bust and texture it in the future.  Time spend 1h 30m

I’m back and I survived my final semester.

Let’s see how long I can do dailies again.I’m going to start out this week doing sculpt.

I thought I would start out with a monster sculpt from my imagination.

Humanoid Dragon in Mudbox WIP v2

humanoid dragon face zbrush mudbox sculpture

I brought my 3d sketch into Mudbox, a more professional 3d sculpting program. I was able use the Retopography tool to turn my sculpture into a quad mesh that was sculpt-able. So far after a bit of messing around was able to put a couple more hours into the figure. It’s far from done unfortunately and I need to finish my wyrm in a jar painting before I do anything else. I will attempt my first 3d illustration after by create separate models and then posing and combining them into one scene.

Because I am a student, Autodesk provides non-commercial 3 year licenses of their products to students. I wanted to learn Mudbox for quite some time. One thing I must say is that it much easier to use then zbrush ( I tried Zbrush a long time ago when they still had a trial version of their software. The crazy UI drove me insane! And I thought Blender’s UI made no sense. I have no clue if the new version has a improved UI or not). I also download Maya since my future class will requires that program.

Cruze 3d Model WIP

3d chubby character

3d model WIP model for Cruze that ‘other’ protagonist. Cruz is the more spontaneous, easy going type compared to Alex who is all ‘Serious Business'(I can’t believe I quoted a meme, no wonder I am forever alone 🙂 ). In the design process I decided shorts would be the best choice for Cruze to wear, because my friend, rain, snow, or shine will be wearing shorts!  His ancestry must have polar bear genes. The shoes are place holders and will be changed.

Time spent 2 hours.Created in Hexagon, Daz Studio and Photoshop

Alex 3d Model WIP 4-13-2013

Alex human too 3d model character alter ego character gator 3d character

First rough of the character Alex. The character that represents myself for web comic / animation thingy that I keep restarting. It is a project with my friend. I be doing the art and character design, he will be coloring the comics and promotion, we will both be scripting, animation, and voice acting. This time due to Carrara’s buggyness, I used just Hexagon to create the model and then imported them into DAZ Studio Pro as morphs that where applied directly to the base mesh. I created clothing and hair in Hexagon as well. The hoodie was on my dragon and I just reused it. The pants and shoes are sliced and diced from clothing that came with DAZ. They are simply placeholders until I can make my own shoes and pants or mod them into something decent.  You might be wondering, ‘wasn’t he a gator/dragon in the concept art?’ Yes there was but it doesn’t fit with what we want to do.  I feel human characters are a better fit for this project for now. I still have a dragon model I spent forever on, I will be using it for SOMETHING. I still think gators are awesome.

Update: Updated some text text that didn’t make since. I called him my alter-ego, I think that was incorrect terminology.

Time Spent: 3 hours on this model, so far.

Tools used:
Hexagon for modeling morphs(face and body) and clothing
DAZ studio for applying morphs, and posing
Photoshop painting textures for assembly of renders

Eastern Dragon 3D model

eastern dragon 3d model made with 123d creature snake like cat eye flying in ari 3d model cartoon

I discovered a awesome 3d sculpting program that actually works on a iPad. It’s called 123 creature. It’s the closest thing you will get to Zbrush on the iPad. Made by Autodesk, you know the AutoCAD and Sketchbook guys. The program has three modes. First is the skeleton mode which is similar to Zspheres and Blenders’s Form tool. After that you ‘bake’ your model to a polygons you can paint or sculpt it. My only complaint is that you can’t go very detailed in your sculpting so you will only can do so much in the app itself. But since you can export your model to OBJ, you can finish the model in your favorite 3d Software. The texture tools are excellent and will remind you of Mudbox’s painting tools.

Now back to the art. This is my third attempt to make a eastern style dragon (the other two dragons will not be posted due to the ugly sauce they produce) in 123d Creature and I ‘m happy how it turned out. I couldn’t give the dragon little teeth due to the limitations of the sculpting tools, I also had trouble coloring the tongue due to not being able to shrink the brush smaller. Pretty decent for my third attempt. I’m happy I was able to give it such a dynamic pose, my last couple dragons have just been standing bored out of their minds 😀

I spent about 3 to 4 hours on it.
