My attempt at designing a troll character that is ‘cute’.

QuickHorror Key Art
Here is the key art that I did for QuickHorror. It will be used at a promotional image for the beta/prototype distribution. I want to give a dark feel. I really wanted to paint the entire monster in the painting but then it take some mystery out of the game. The monster in the game is rendered in a way that you cant get a clear shot of it. I will release a trailer tomorrow, and a press release on Wednesday.
I’m hoping I can upload the game to IndieDB, GameJolt, an another indie game server tonight. It will only have the procedural generated levels but that alone should give a player hours of game play. If enough people like the game, I will Kickstart it. I’m excited and terrified. I’ve never promoted my games before.
Chris the Dragon bust
I’ve been out of town for a few days on vacation so i haven’t been working on any new pieces. I have been sketching and doodling before I went to sleep. One sketch is that of portrait of my dragon character Chris on my iPad using Procreate. I liked how it came out, thought I would share it with you.
Dean the Dragon (Head Portrait + Avatar)

Update: Modified the avatar to appear more ‘dragony’ and less anthropomorphic. Didn’t feel like double posting.
Yesterday, I decided to create a new avatar image. The character I often use as a avatar is Dean the Dragon, a original character of mine. Originally it was just going to be a simple cartoonly color drawing. But when I finished it, I felt that I returned to my old ways and bad habits of using symbols instead of using form and value. So i converted it to a value painting. A color value painting. Granted it could be popped out more and I missed a highlight on the ear, but it came out rather well for the amount of time I spent on him and since it wont be bigger then 128 pixels on most sites, it should work well.

Dragonian Warrior Clad in Light Armor
A couple days ago I published to the blog completed artwork of the Dragon Humanoid Warrior. I wasn’t completely happy with it so I continued to work on it. I was displeased with the dragon’s face and I totally forgot to finish the neck, so I fixed it. Made the eyes bigger and engaged them to the viewer. The armor was originally inspired by a armor set in the video game Dark Souls, but when I was done drawing the armor it was too close, so I modified the armor to something more original. Fixed some sloppy errors in the background but left it relatively loose. Fixed some lighting issues. Removed the old image and post off the blog.

The Ominous Tower

A dark eerie tower with stakes protruding out of it with vultures circling around, with it’s last unfortunate visitor still ‘hanging around’ the tower. (I know that was bad pun.. oh look shades are falling from the sky….). I been using Sketch Book Pro as of late due to getting it half off on a amazon sale. I must say it is drastically improved from the last version, with natural brushes and smudge tools, selection tools similar to Photoshop’s, and a clean interface. It’s now self contained so now I can draw a major if not all of the piece without relaying on Photoshop all the time. I might do a video on Sketch Book Pro 6 in the future.

It’s quite a long title for this painting. I couldn’t think of anything catchy. I been focusing my art on telling stories. I spent a great deal of time on this work, about 4 hours total. Granted there are some things i could refine at a later time, I am currently happy how it is in it’s current state. I was very interested in making sure the perspective is interesting and accurate. My obsession with chiarscuro has no end. Another dragon, I know. I will be working on a shipwreck scene for my next story painting. Created in Photoshop. (C)2012 maugryph
