The best digital sketches I did last week on my Computer Tablet

digital doodles 6-22

Instead of loading up 20 sketches to the blog, I thought it would be more economical (and less annoying to my readers) to pick the best of the bunch and arrange them on to one page. Most are sketches of people I see around my local mall. It’s challenging because most of the time there is only a few seconds to put everything down before the person moves.

Gryphon (Monster 19)

anthro gryphon

Getting myself back into the monster painting project. Here is a painting/sketch of a gryphon.

I love gryphons, they are my second favorite monster, dragons being my first. I felt like painting one. I painted this using Manga Studio. Time Spent, a little over an hour and a half

Chris the Haxorus

This was a parody Pokemon character I made for a comic project I was working with some forum friends. I call it a ‘pokeperson’ and is similar to the Latios Man concept I drew a month ago. But now it doesn’t look like the project is going to happen now. Ive been using the portrait as an avatar on some social sites I hang out at.

Building and Prop Concept Art for Leviathan

Mushroom-conceptsferna-conceptsbuildings-and-modular-concept-v2

My first pass concept sketches for Leviathan. I might not have time for a second pass because the game needs to be completed in two weeks. I going to do a quick environment painting and then I must start working on the level and models.

Armadilo Barbarian Sketch (Daily Monster: 06 out of 30)

Daily-Monster-06---ardvark-barbarian

The daily monster painting has been a two edged sword. It’s given me the motivation to paint and explore but because of time restraints I do not have time to fully research material for my subjects. This means the anatomy and potential variations suffer. I will try to figure something out. For example I love the face but the clothing is very plain because I had time to skech armadillos but not any time to research clothing. I might lengthen the project to give me a extra day to do some research and prelims for each character.

Lokochomp (Daily Monster: 01 out of 30)

Daily-Monster-01v2

Hello. It’s been a while since I did a project on this blog. I thought I would do¬† more realistic goals, instead of ‘paint a painting everyday for a year’ goal. I only made it to four months and I was exhausted. For the last couple months I’ve only worked on two paintings. I was stressed out and basically gave up on painting for a little while.

I wanted to try my hand at a shark like creature. I was inspired by Garchomp and the Loki warframe. I didn’t paint the water reflections or bubbles because It’s almost three in the morning and I need to go to sleep.

As I mentioned I am taking a online painting workshop called “The Magic Box” being tought by the ex-Disney character artist, Chris Oatley. It’s a challenge course that I feel very behind on the assignment (A ‘fancy animal’ painting), even if it’s ‘at your own pace’. However; I’ve kept up on the lectures. I’ve learned so much. The lessons on atmospheric perspective, masking, and detail/texture alone has made the course worth while. We start landscapes next months, I’m really excited.

I need to apply what I’ve learned so I decided to ‘get back in the grove’ by painting monsters and characters for thirty days. I can’t guarantee that they will be hyper detailed or finished but they will attempt to apply what I learned in the lessons. This is a realistic goal, that I know I can do.
