T-Rex with Robotic Limbs (D18)

cyborg-dino-doodle

A T-rex with firey feathers and robotic appendages. Nothing is more epic.

Painting in mass instead of line has really helped me loosen up. My mass sketches look better then my line sketchs. I think it’s because I can focus more on the shapes then the contours. I need to keep pushing myself to improve.

Dragon/Dino walks and then trips

My first animation for the Advanced Animation class. The teacher allowed me to choose my own projects.

I picked character rigging by parenting and using the puppet wrap tool. The walk cycle is a little rough but I feel that the rig itself was successful.

The 21 Day Drawing Challenge: All 21 Days

I participated in Von Glitschka‘s 21 Day Drawing Challenge (http://www.lynda.com/Design-Illustration-tutorials/21-Day-Drawing-Challenge/164144-2.html?utm_medium=ldc-partner&utm_source=SSPRC&utm_content=524&utm_campaign=CD14621&bid=524&aid=CD14621). Truthfully I was hoping to upload the new challenge drawing every day, but I have been swamped with homework this month. Being the genus that I am, I took 15 credit hours at 3 different colleges. I am almost done with a 8 week psychology course, and I spend around 6-9 hours a week on the darn thing. It’s driving me crazy. So I haven’t post in a month. But I did successfully finish the challenge. I have a friend join me on the challenge and it helped a lot. I enjoyed the challenge, my only gripe is that it was supposed to be for all skill levels but my non-artist friend struggled with it, I had to help him along and teach him techniques that the videos did not mention. I actually enjoyed teaching him. However, the course made him discover that he loves drawing and had decided to continue with it, which I am excited about. I definitely will do another monthly challenge after I finish dreaded Psychology get caught up on other things. (It will be a while).

Daily Painting No.100 – Dragon portrait WIP (so close) + Dino Squad Review

dragon painting how to art painting dragon artist art

100 daily paintings Who hoo! (actually its more like 80 if your counting each individual painting) I  actually made it  So happy! My dragon painting is near completion. I just have a little more clean up on the dragon and then need to clean up the background. Unless someone commissions me to paint a dragon, this will be the last dragon painting one for some time (yeah right, my best guess is I will last two weeks max without painting a dragon). I would rather focus my dragon related energies on making a realistic 3d dragon model ( When the model is finished I could animated him doing the tango and post it on youtube.. wait.. that might not be the best idea..) I will post my process when I start the model.

Holy random “Dino Squad” review Batman!

On Netflix I wanted to watch a animated series I hadn’t seen before, I found this show called “Dino Sqaud” about teenagers that can morph into dinosaurs to save the world from a evil velociraptor bent on changing everything (including humans) into dinosaurs (Let me take a breath, that was a long un-punctuated sentence). It sounded interesting so I gave it  a try… I have chosen poorly… Each episode forces you to watch the same transformation sequences over, and over, and over again while it’s terrible theme song plays in the background. (I’M IN! I’M IN! I’M THE DINO SQUAD!) It reminds me of the un-skippable summon animations in Final Fantasy 8. The Triceratops TF will give me nightmares tonight. the dino designs are somewhat inaccurate but it’s a kid’s show, so that’s forgiven. The main cast just stereotypes, unfortunately. The animation is average but gets the job done. Dino Squad is not terrible enough to watch just for laughs but is not good enough to watch for enjoyment. Kids will love it though. Go Dino!

Daily Painting No.80 – Velociraptor attacking Soldiers (WIP 1)

velocirapter attacking solders painting still life

I miss painting still life. With this still life, I plan on combining what I see with my imagination. I dub this a ‘Fanstasy Still Life Painting’ TM (lol) The best of both worlds. For the next couple days I will be working on this painting. My focus for my paintings are refinement and details. Something I can’t do too much with a 1 hour speed painting. I hope to invest 6+ hours on this. Feedback is very much appreciated. I wont be able to upload stuff on Tuesdays for a couple months. I have classes all day making it impossible for me to do so. Wednesdays though Mondays will be business as usual.

…and yes I intentionally did not put feathers on the raptor. Another paleontologist is dieing somewhere inside. How can I take paleontology seriously when they named the Dracorex after the Hogwarts school in Harry Potter? (yes I am joking about the paleontology thing, but not the Dracorex’s name)

Daily Painting No.66- Best friends forever (Finished)

dino and horse t rex and pony allosaurus friends best friends forever

My first color still life is complete. I could (and probably should in the future) push the refinement of this painting more, but I am tired of painting it at the moment. I have found from my experience in painting, the only brushes you need for 90% of your painting is the soft round and the hard round brush. You only need other brushes for FX and repetitive shapes. My focus was color harmony. I tied the red all over the painting to make it consistent. Time Spent: A little less then four hours. Painted from scratch in Photoshop using a wacom tablet. I will be painting some quicker still life paintings in the future of rocks and shiny things.
