Daily Paint 63 – Dragon head.

HNI_0038_MPO

A head of a dragon I doodled on the spot when I was eating at  Dunken Donuts. I have been practicing the use of complementary tones for the shadows of the picture. I noticed doing that breathes more life into my sketches.

Monster Gentlemen having a Spot of Tea (Daily Doodle 2)

monsters have a spot of tea

I love tea. Another random monster doodle. I have found a new method the helps me stay loose and keeps me open to other opportunities. It’s fun but kind of silly what is hidden in this lobe of mine. Time spent: 35 minutes.

Dragon Metamorphosis

dragon transformation dragon face man turning into a dragon sequence

This was a homework assignment for my Advanced Drawing class. The theme was metamorphosis. I have drawn many dragons but never a man turning into one, so I found it a fun challenge. I created the drawing in charcoal. Afterwards I scanned it in, fixed some minor issues in photos that came to my notice when it was critiqued, and added some color to the charcoal drawing. It took around 8 hours total just in the charcoal phase. Charcoal is a new medium for me and was struggling with it. A word of advice, never use vine charcoal to shade, use a compressed charcoal stick and a charcoal pencil instead.

Dragon Wyvern Painting

My first wyvern painting. I tried a different method to painting this time. I painted a silhouette and then blocked in the forms into the silhouette. This painting method worked surprisingly well for me. It got me out of my artist block. I spent about three hours on it. Painted it in Photoshop. Let me know what you think.
