I had this kick of making fake video game posters based on characters other videogames. So I drew my friends and myself as various species and monsters in the Super Mario Games. Its also was to spoof RPGs.

Project Night: Ruins Concept art (D31)
Some concept art for the ruins area of project dark. I’m debating if I should give it a jungle like environment or not. In old jungle ruins you see those large vines that take over buildings. I would like to incorporate that into the level if possible but I don’t know if I have the main power to make them. I drew a bird/lizard like creature because my brain wasn’t up to drawing a person tonight. Honestly for the world, what needs to considered is the fauna and flora in the world. It needs to be just a little exotic but still grounded in our world
Sarah the Scorceress (D25)
I think I came out decent for a daily painting
I referenced a stock photo by Jaggeded Eye on FA for this sketch
Sun Warrior Lady (D2)
A grossly incandescent warrior of.. I have no clue.
My second daily, could have been better as I rushed this drawing before going to bed. It will make due for tonight.
Daily Paint 11 – Charmeleon
I struggled with today’s painting. I just couldn’t get it the way that I wanted it. I made him a bit too monstrous. This is charmeleon, charmander’s 2nd evolution, or as I call it, his dorky angry teenage years. I bet you can’t guess what I will paint tomorrow 🙂 then Rayquaza on Friday and Samus Aran on Sat/Sun
Daily Painting No.95 – Dragon Attacking Mage
Another dragon painting. The main focus of this painting was composition and flow. I wanted to make the dragon look like a bad-ass and give the creature weight. I did my best to avoid drawing the ‘alex’ dragon face I commonly draw in my drawings. I wouldn’t want to meet this dragon in a dark alley… or anywhere for that matter. Not too bad for my imagination.
My comps are starting to get a little better. The painting needs refinement in some areas but has good potential. Not entirely happy with the colors. I have a video of me painting this. I will try to upload it tomorrow for those who are interested in my workflow. Painted from scratch in Photoshop with a Wacom Intros tablet. 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Daily Painting No.52- Tom Kidd Copy/Study Revisited
I wanted to work some more on the study. I didn’t feel like drawing a still life today. Honestly, I didn’t want to paint at all. Since this I my first color study of a artist, I was surprised how well I did. I think this is it for this painting, I have no interest in continuing. I studied a painting by Tom Kidd. Painted from scratch in Photoshop using a wacom tablet. Time spent, A little under two hours. My next study will be quick color thumbnail studies of a bunch of paintings by one artist. I saw a fellow artist on WordPress study this way so I want to give it a shot.
Daily Painting No.42 – Still life / Dragon Toy on a Curvy Box (unfinished)
I learn a valuable lesson in painting this still life. If you only have a hour and a half to paint, don’t pick a detailed object that will take you three. I was setting up the still life and say a dragon toy sculpture on the side and said ‘Why not? I painted a elephant a few nights before! this shouldn’t take too long”. Yeah, right. I only got to the chest of the dragon toy before the evil timer started ringing. The box shape also needed some more tlc. On the plus side, in a few more paintings I should graduate from just painting matte objects to adding reflective objects into the mix. That’s going to be a lot of fun.
I also was getting a headache organizing the paintings by date, often getting confused and giving paintings on two different days the same creation date. so I made it numerical instead. It also lets me see who commented on which painting better.
Fell free to critique and comment
A mage and her dragon contemplating on a cliff while watching the sunset
I consider this my first ‘finished’ fantasy painting. I worked on it off and on for a month I spent a 7-9 hours total on this image. Originally it was going to be a watercolor painting but due to the fact that I totally screwed up on it and thankfully I had a scan of the pencil drawing on the watercolor paper before started painting on it. I was able to start anew in Photoshop. The story is simple, after a long day of travel a mage and her dragon companion/steed rest on the cliff side, watching the sunset. I know its not going to set the fantasy world on fire but I learned so much from painting this freaking image.
Self Critique: some of the area are still a little rough. I might smoothed them out. I just realized I forgot to render the smoke coming out of the dragon’s nostrils, I will update this post when I fixed it. I felt like I should of put a building on top of the mesa in the distance.Photoshop: 7 to 9 hours
Daily Painting No.9 ( Wizard casts a lighting spell in a dark forest)
I have been in a national forest for most of the day. Had the urge to draw a forest scene. The wizard casting a lighting spell was a spur of the moment thing.
Self critique: needed to finish the bark of the tree. and have more branches point toward the wizard. While I am proud of the leaf texture brushes I made, the realism of the textures conflict with of the unfinished bark. I totally forgot to add bounce lighting to the leaves. I love the glow effect of the light I made with minimal effort.
