Wow it’s been so long

Tree sketch out of head hdIts been almost 18 months since I’ve posted anything on my blog. Where have I’ve been? Well I’ve been working as a graphic designer at a local printshop in my area. I’ve been making logos, signs and business cards. It’s a great place to work and I love working there, however I don’t get to use much of my illustrations skills in the position. I started getting headaches and migraines from looking at a computers screen so I been doing most of my art analog. I started to paint in acrylics. I’ve won 1st place in a student exhibition, which was surprising to me. I’ve also joined the local artist guild and had my paintings on display a couple times.

However I do miss posting my art on various websites and getting feedback. I actually lost one of my art accounts because I couldn’t log on to a email that was connected to it. It was a site I was using to get most of my commissions before I started working at the print shop. It taunt me a valuable lesson about always setting up your accounts correctly. But it’s not a big deal, I haven’t done any commissions since I got the job. I still have Maugryph, Alex and Cruz, and Chipizard. Those are the most important to me.

I feel that I need to start sharing my art again and not be stuck in some sort of vacuum. Starting August 12, I will be uploading artwork and will set up one to upload a day. Feel free to provide both praise and feedback. I will also be checking the blogs and friends I used to haunt on WordPress.com, I hope some of them are still active and around. I will be checking this regularly to feel free to drop me a line.

Daily Painting No.21 – Enchanting Forest

Dark forest with light exit escape the dark trees of doom

I wanted to paint a landscape forest scene out of my head. Again I attempted the back to front method of painting. I jumped in without doing thumbnails first,it could of ended with disaster, but I did ok.  The idea of the painting is that your in a dark forest but you can see the ‘exit’, the light, the way out to safety.  the furna in my design similar to the ones in the forest I live by. Unfortunately I ran out of time, and was unable to add characters. I’m too happy with it at the moment, I will self critique it the next day, when I will be able to see all the mistakes.

I spent about a hour and 45 minutes on this painting. Painted in Photoshop with a wacom tablet. Any feedback is appreciated.

Daily Painting No.9 ( Wizard casts a lighting spell in a dark forest)

a wizard casting a light spell in a forest

I have been in a national forest for most of the day. Had the urge to draw a forest scene. The wizard casting a lighting spell was a spur of the moment thing.

Self critique: needed to finish the bark of the tree. and have more branches point toward the wizard. While I am proud of the leaf texture brushes I made, the realism of the textures conflict with of the unfinished bark. I totally forgot to add bounce lighting to the leaves. I love the glow effect of the light I made with minimal effort.
