A Unlikely Friendship (WIP)

beast friend girl unlikely jungle forest abandon ruins trees take over

This is artwork I am working on for my advanced drawing class. The theme is “Animal/Plant Hybrid”. Since values have been something my instructor wanted me to work on, I really tried to push the entire range in this painting. I love the trees that have taken over the ruins and have grown on top of them. I wanted to do a painting with that idea in mind. I included a plant monster and a woman into the painting to give it a narrative element.  I will be doing two versions of this painting.   The first one is finishing up this digital drawing into a finished painting. The second will be doing a charcoal version of this. I upload my progress as I go. 3 hours of work so far.

In the near future.I will resume my daily paintings project for a couple months . however , I must do homework first this week. I will be doing some quick 30min art studies for my online workshop class i am taking. BUT on the creative end I will be working on this painting for class, a Hobbit fan art/parody and a commission of a lizard warrior armed with a halberd, ready to open up a can.

A busy week for sure. I hope I can survive.

Daily Painting No. 102 – Dragon Portrait (Finished)

dragonbadass dragon face game video game concept art illustration fun dragon mad spikey drag-on

yes! I have finally completed this painting, after  working on and of on it for two months. I finished cleaning up the lines, played around with the colors, and I am done (I think). Tell me what you think.  I spent at least 12-13 hours on this painting. I learned allot about the importance to experiment, create  and destroy parts of the painting , and to have a more playful attitude when painting. It’s so important not to get tight when painting. best to start loose and build on the picture instead of worrying about everything being perfect. I made it to 102 daily paintings!

Trust me! I’m a dragon (T shirt design)

My second T-Shirt design featuring a dragon. I drew the dragon on my iPad and the wacky font I drew in Photoshop.  T Shirts are a fascinating form of graphic design (to me) that I wish I would of considered earlier. While I doubt I will make a living making these. It helps me think outside the box and incorporate both graphics and text into a piece.

Man confonts the Dragon (WIP)

dragon illustration wip

I am working on a retelling of a illustration I did about 5 months ago http://maugryph.deviantart.com/art/A-warrior-confronts-a-dragon-that-is-hungry-348927571. This time I made the dragon massive, it’s head taking most of the picture itself. I have been experimenting with custom brushes. This painting will have two light sources, on from above and one from the warrior’s torch.

A man confronts a monster 10x his size. Not too bright in the light department. Here is the painting so far, it’s got a ways to go. Strangely enough I am juggling three different illustrations at once. Let me know what you think of this rough so far.

For every illustration and and painting I do, my goal is to do better then my last painting, no matter how small. I also been doing regiment of  lighting studies and drawing figures daily. A awesome practice site for drawing figures is here  http://artists.pixelovely.com/. give it a shot if you need some figure practice and cant afford a model (nothing beats a real model but this is good practice regardless).

Photoshop. I have no clue how much time I’ve spent, I was experimenting with brushes and undo and redoing brush stokes. I lost track of time. A hour, maybe two?
