Dragon sneaking into a lab

tealate-sneaking-13

Commissioned piece I did  for Blue Hasia on Deviant Art. The idea is that the dragon Tealate can walk through walls and become invisible.

I spent a lot of time on this painting. It was a lot of fun.

Daily Painting NO.97 – Dragon Attacking Mage 2

dragon attacking mage angry wings dark powe mage casting spell background concept art sketch digital artwork

Refined and polished the dragon painting I did a couple days ago. Added details in the face, put some atmospheric perspective on the tail and person in the background. blended some messy lines. Cleaned the edges This painting can be pushed father, but I am some what pleased with it. Maybe in the future I will work on it some more. Worked 4 hours on this painting. Painted from scratch using Photoshop and a wacom tablet. Let me know what you think.

A mage and her dragon contemplating on a cliff while watching the sunset

A mage and her dragon contemplate on a cliff watching the sunset

I consider this my first ‘finished’ fantasy painting. I worked on it off and on for a month I spent a 7-9 hours total on this image. Originally it was going to be a watercolor painting but due to the fact that I totally screwed up on it and thankfully I had a scan of the pencil drawing on the watercolor paper before started painting on it. I was able to start anew in Photoshop. The story is simple, after a long day of travel a mage and her dragon companion/steed rest on the cliff side, watching the sunset. I know its not going to set the fantasy world on fire but I learned so much from painting this freaking image.

Self Critique: some of the area are still a little rough. I might smoothed them out. I just realized I forgot to render the smoke coming out of the dragon’s nostrils, I will update this post when I fixed it. I felt like I should of put a building on top of the mesa in the distance.Photoshop: 7 to 9 hours

Wolf concept sketch for next illustration.

wolf-concept-art-2

I’m taking my illustrations seriously.  I need to push myself to improve with each project, with each drawing. So I am trying to figure out everything before even commenting a single line on a virtual canvas. Doing thumbnails and concept sketches of a complex scene with five characters interacting with each other(a wolf, a dragon, a cat, a monkey and a gryphon bird thing) in a very low vanishing point.  after refining the thumbnail of my choosing. I’ve  made a simple 3d analog of the scene as a reference so I could experiment with the lighting and get the lighting correct. Now doing some concept sketches of the characters and what outfits they will be wearing. Here’s the first one. It will probably take me a week total to complete. Also had fun with bounce lights, I love bounce lights. The wolf’s armor is inspired by medieval armor and video game outfits. Time spent, 1 1/2 hours:  Painted in Photoshop.

Princess scorning a dragon (Sketch painting)

princess scorning a dragon who is hungry

It’s difficult to figure out a unique idea for such a cliched subject. I thought maybe a princess scorning a dragon for attacking a knight, like the dragon is her pet or something. this is yet another rendering test, that was supposed to take a hour but yet I spent 2 1/2 on the thing. I don’t think it was worth putting the extra time in. I didn’t plan anything, I just scribbled something out and painted it. I didn’t even use any references. I just drew it. For some reason I did a great job rendering the armor.

Painted in Photoshop : Time spent  2 1/2 hours

No knights where hurt in the making of this painting.
