It’s an old painting but I thought I have some paintings that I want to show first before I start uploading my latest work.

Ruined Column (Env 16)
The composition for this study is similar to yesterday’s painting but with a cool pallet and focused on a old man made column that is surround by ruins. Ref from Wikimedia
Pointy Boulder (Env 15)
Today’s landscape study painting. I thought the rock looked rather cool. I did use some dry brush but mostly stuck with the stanard on for detail. I dont know if that was a good move or not. Ref from Wikimedia
Dead Forest Speedpaint (Env 13)
A speed painting of a bleak forest. Ref from wikimedia.
Odd rock formation (Env 12)
An odd rock formation I painted on my iPad using Procreate. I love the charcoal brushes
Nuevo Bridge (Env 7)
Although I do these studies on a regular almost daily basis, I haven’t gotten into the habit of uploading them to the blog after finishing them. I feel like I’m starting to loosen up. As with many of my studies, I used Wikimedia Commons for references (CC-AB).
Dragon Monks + Env 4
The Promise
For this painting I wanted to tell some story between the two characters in the foreground and paint a ocean\sunset scene with some sort of stone structures protruding out of the water. I was surprised how quickly I was able to paint this. It took me about three hours to complete. I didn’t smudge this time to blend. Instead I used as soft round brush like a airbrush. I enjoy value painting so much. Let me know what you think 🙂
Update: Shrunk down the birds on the tower as they where too big. Lighted up the sides, made it too dark. Cleaned up the tower farthest in the distance
Created in Photoshop
Time Spent Painting: 3 hours.

The Gift (Chinese Fantasy Cityscape)

I wanted to try a landscape story painting of a subject I haven’t tried yet. I decided to try a city with a heavy Chinese influence in the architecture. The painting took about 8 hours to complete, it was painted in sketchbook pro. I add a lot of little story elements in the picture for the viewer to enjoy, which also helped take the monotony out of painting details and actually makes it enjoyable. Orignally the person on the right was going to be a boy in traditional Chinese outfit, but I changed it to a girl instead. The falcon at first wasn’t glowing nor transparent originally but I found that it blended too much in the buildings so I tried lighting it up and it worked. My love for chiaroscuro has no end.
Wrecked House – Concept Painting 01
My first attempt a landscape painting the tells some sort of story. And my first ‘concept art’ style painting. I have been inspired by concept artists that paint entire scenes at a whim and at a highly readable style. I want to be able to tell stories with my paintings, I just never knew how, I usually just focused on characters and simplified backgrounds but not the story. I been drawing landscapes for a year now but I never felt like i was giving a emotion with them, That I was just making something pretty. So this is my first painting in that respect. Although there are many things I see that I could of done to make the image better, I moving on. You got to start somewhere. I want to improve on my concepts. I;ve been reading books and watching videos on how to improve on this matter. Feel free to comment.
