QuickHorror Key Art

Quickhorror key art 10 flattened crop3

Here is the key art that I did for QuickHorror. It will be used at a promotional image for the beta/prototype distribution. I want to give a dark feel. I really wanted to paint the entire monster in the painting but then it take some mystery out of the game. The monster in the game is rendered in a way that you cant get a clear shot of it. I will release a trailer tomorrow, and a press release on Wednesday.

I’m hoping I can upload the game to IndieDB, GameJolt, an another indie game server tonight. It will only have the procedural generated levels but that alone should give a player hours of game play. If enough people like the game, I will Kickstart it. I’m excited and terrified. I’ve never promoted my games before.

Toasty Battle (Daily Doodle 4)

monster dragon stead torching a army with its fire breath so it can have a tasty snack

Another monster themed doodle for today.  I wanted to draw some sort of a warrior woman commanding a monsters. I feel I could of tried a more dynamic pose but.. oh well. All my monsters currently suffer from dragonanitus (They resemble dragons). I will be doing some animal doodles and then change them to monsters to attempt to get more variety with my monsters. I also want to have a girl or woman character in every daily comp I do. It’s important for me to ‘figure’ out how to include it in my comps.

Daily Painting No.96 – A Question of Balance

a question of ballance

A concept test for a class I am taking. The theme is two figures, no more, no less. I thought a great contrast would be a skinny lady and gigantic sumo guy. It’s more playful then my more serious dragon paintings. I spent about 40 minutes on it. the foot is unfinished. I was thinking of making the guy a satyr. Painted from scratch with Photoshop and a wacom tablet.

Daily Painting No.78 – Alex Hawkenstone (Concept Art)

alex heroine reporter plaid shirt golden blond hair female hero

I finally completed a painting of Alex Hawkenstone, the main protagonist of my story. I went though many color experiments with the clothing to get something I was satisfied with. She is a norden, a people that live in the snowy mountains of the north.  She is no warrior, has no super powers, cannot cast a spell, nor can she shape shift. However, she has her wits about her at all times. Something she puts to use with eerie precision. She starts out uncertain of herself, but gains confidence throughout the story. I want her to grow with the reader. This is less of a coming of age story. It is more about ordinary people put into epic and extraordinary circumstances, and coming out on top. I painted it in Photoshop using a drawing tablet. It took about four hours total to paint. five hours if you count researching the clothing.

update: adjusted the colors from cool to warm to better match her personality.

Daily Painting No.27

(I have removed the painting. Just looking at it frustrated me)

This painting was a frustration. I wanted to paint a woman warrior but I decided it had to be difficult, so  I added extreme foreshortening and a angry face. I spent about 2 hours on this painting, I the first hour was just on her face. The face drove me insane. That’s why the rest of the painting is so rough. I re-sized the fist 2 times. Self Critique: the Fists need to either be blurred or had just as much detail as the face. Decided to stop adding tone to my gray scale paintings, I’ve been abusing it too much.I dislike this painting, and feedback is appreciated.

Critique update: I think if I could of put some sort of motion effect, like a motion blur on the fist, or a wind effect. It would be more effective. her face needs brightening up. It came out better then I thought it did last night. I need to make sure I don’t get stuck on just one area of the painting, work the whole painting evenly (except for the area of focus)
