Metal Slug 8 Comp Sketch (Daily Doodle 18)
For the next 6 days I will be working on comps that I could make into illustrations. This is a comp study idea for a game that does not exist yet (and from the looks of it never will). You could technically call it ‘fan art’ but the game doesn’t exist so it makes it moot. I have enjoyed the Metal Slug games even though they still kick my posterior.
I tried a new method of blocking in shapes using the lasso tool and then filling it with the foreground color. Even with a action programmed it took me forever to get comfortable and it slowed me down. this sketch is very complex with people, martians, and robots everywhere. I took a hour and a half to get this far. To turn this into a painting I estimate it would take 10-15 hours + 5hrs for the logo.
You opinion matters to me. On the final day I might setup a poll asking which illustration you like best. The best two wins… or something like that. Feedback and crits are always welcome.
Notes to ME:
Marko: research a action pose that Marko would be more dynamic. Research the Heavy Machine Gun and get the perspective accurately. Should I have ammo shooting out of it? Should I make Marko’s face filled with rage?
Evil General: fade him a bit so he is not so dominant.
Eri: Pose idea is fine, just research it to make it more accurate.

Daily Painting No.4 – Anthro Iguana
Dragon looking from behind
The dragon heard the warrior approaching from behind. He doesn’t look too happy 😀
This was originally going to be the daily doodle for yesterday but It went beyond a doodle. I just get caught up in things sometimes. I trying to let my line work do most of the work this time. I tried a experiment to render it further to making look more like a painting but it didn’t work. It failed so I wasted two hours, with frustration. So I went back to this version and finished it off.
Photoshop, 4 hours (6 hours total with my mishap)
Feedback is welcome, let me know what you think.
Asgaut the Viking – Concept Sketch
Introducing Asgaut the Viking. This is one of my experimental projects much like my daily head portraits. I want to do something that I haven’t done before, tell a short story in sequential art (comics). I’ve done comics in the past but they where either one panel gags or one page strips, but I would loose interest in them. I’ve been working for months on very epic story that would take pages and pages to tell in words let alone frames, but it is beyond me to create at this moment due to my lack experience in posing action shots. So I am putting that project on the backburner. I just wanted to actually MAKE a comic with a simple story that will take no more then a couple dozen pages. A comic that will start and end. It will be drawn in black and white, no color. I have written the script for each page already. Now all I need to do is draw the pages. I will start drawing them today. My goal is to get at least two pages done a week. If I can get 5-6 heads drawn a week, I should be able to get at least two pages done. Starting out small so I can actually finish something for a change :D. This painting is pretty boring but it is simply a ref for me to use when drawing the character. Later I will paint a more polished work of him doing something interesting. Added a Page
