A Penguin’s Short Slide (Short Animation)

A cocky penguin dares himself to slide off a mountain with a steep cliff edge only to hesitate when it’s too late. My first short animation in Blender.  What I thought would only take me a couple days, took almost 2 weeks.

If you enjoyed the animation, please share with friends.

Daily Paint 45 – The IGN reviewer

daily-paint-the-ign-review

I am not too happy with commercial game review sites at the moment.  Many are not honest and have no integrity.  I was originally going to rant but I decided against it. With out further ado here is my interpretation of what an IGN reviewer looks like. I also added an IGN based meme.

Lesson of the story : Look towards personal blogs and small budding sites for your reviews.

Meerkat Gossip (Daily Doodle 1)

mercat painting gossip chat standing NOT timone

I did this doodle of  two meercats in a zoo gossiping.  It’s not a dragon. what else is there to do in a zoo? who knew. the cat made pancakes that are blue. in the the zoo. Did I mention that it is not a dragon? I spent 2 hours on this non dragon painting.

I am returning to my daily art thing. For 45 days I will sketch, paint, and or draw something  unplanned every day for 45 days.

The wools:

0. It must be a creature or a animal (humans included). No dragons. I paint enough dragons already.

1. 10 thumbnail sketches before you even start the painting.

2. No less then 30 minutes, no more then 2 hours.

3.Black and white only (my brain will explode if I use color at this time)

4. The VALUE RANGE SHALL BE PUSHED TO IT”S LIMIT!

The goal (in King James speak): thou get thee ideas out of head, thou practiceif composition every day, thou coverith the full value range in thou picture.

Like the last daily project I will not paint on tuesdays due to having classes all day. sorry.

Did I mention that there is no dragon in this painting?

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Parody (WIP 2)

the hobbit dos parody fan art smaug you have nice manners for a thief and a liar

The caption that goes below this painting when it is finished will be “you have nice manners for a thief and a liar”. I am very disappointed that I was unable to finish by release day :(. My desktop PC was crashing after a few minutes of turning on. I think its over heating. I will probably need to crack it open and replace a fan if that is what it is. I haven’t run a diagnostic so I’m not sure. But regardless, I was unable to work on this. Thank goodness I worked on the color study for my commission first. Updates are : I made Smaug bigger. I refined Bilbo’s,Thorin’s, and Smaug’s face. Added a cast shadow. I can’t believe it took me a hour to do this. I must need more coffee 😀 Although I have a great reference for Cumberbatch’s face, I need so see how his wings and tail are before working on them. So I will need to rent the movie soon.

Time spend on this piece: 3 hours so far.

Mr.Dragon is in a rage because his favorite mechanical pencil broke in half.

rage dragon sketch mad

I been so busy with commissions and artwork for  classes as of late I haven’t been able to paint much of personal projects. I sketch with a mechanical pencil, a Zebra, supposedly best mechanical pencil money could buy… and it broke in half after one month of use. It was disappointing but I didn’t go on a rampage and set the town on fire, at least not this time. I been trying to tell stories when I draw, even if it doesn’t show in the final image. I wanted to draw a dragon, and I thought “why is he angry?” Because his favorate mechanical pencil has broken in half. How is he going draw fair maidens now? About a hour and a half to make. Needs a little more clean up. I figured out a thing I need to work on after painting this. How to be playful with my paintings and not take the process so seriously. my sketches have been more imaginative since I started this.

The Dragon Princess – Storyboard

dragon comic story humor woman tf dragon curse saved by night dragon knight relationship

This was my storyboard assignment. The goal of the assignment was to tell the story with no dialog. Pictures only. And I was limited to ONLY 10 PANELS!  The story is somewhat based on a Welsh fairy tale with a twist. I am curious how you interpret this storyboard /comic. If you have the time, tell me what you think it the narrative is. :). I noticed there is a fine line between sequential art and storyboarding. Using a fixed picture frame and seeing the picture frame as the eye of the camera takes away the complexity of panel layout and design and helps me just worry about what is important… The narrative. I will be performing a test run of ‘storyboarding’ my Alexis Hawkenstone story. Since I am such messy writer. The visual aspect of storyboarding/comics might be a better fit for my story.

Daily Painting No.96 – A Question of Balance

a question of ballance

A concept test for a class I am taking. The theme is two figures, no more, no less. I thought a great contrast would be a skinny lady and gigantic sumo guy. It’s more playful then my more serious dragon paintings. I spent about 40 minutes on it. the foot is unfinished. I was thinking of making the guy a satyr. Painted from scratch with Photoshop and a wacom tablet.

Daily Painting No.94 – The Eel Salesman

anthro eel salesman

I am trying to loosen up and be more imaginative with my artwork. I’ve been too much in my comfort zone with Photoshop so for today’s painting i used a open source app called Krita so I would feel uncomfortable. Krita however is surprisingly similar to Photoshop in many ways. The only thing I haven’t figured out is setting up actions. About the painting. I had no sketch or idea ahead of time. I just scribbled around until something appeared. It’s a eel water salesman that wants to sell you artisan water ! However you only get 5 lives and if you want to play more you must give him money. He also owns the trademark to ‘water’.

45 minutes. Krita .

I’m having second thoughts about changing my daily painting project to a still life/ portrait academic thing. I am currently taking art classes at this time so I have plenty of ‘academic’ projects. So I am using my daily painting project to explore ideas and be more imaginative in my process. Effective So there are only two limitations I will put on my self : 1. I must spend at least 30 minutes on a painting and 2. It must be a new painting every day. I will see how this goes for about 30 paintings. I still have 271 paintings to go 0_0.
