Apparently I forgot to upload this creepy environment painting. I did this one out of my imagination. It needs some refining.

Chimera Dude (Monster 13)

monster-13

This poor creature was once a man but he was turned into this monstrosity because he: fell into toxic ooze / was curse by an evil sorcerer / was a victim of a failed science experiment / all of the above… or its just some creature that likes to wear shirts.

For the remaining monsters I will be drawing  creatures from fables and legends. For example: minotaurs, basilisks, and the cockatrice.

Some slimy serpent thing (Daily Monster: 08 out of 30)

I don’t know what dark side of my brain this abomination came from.

I was experimenting in mypaint, an open source paint app. I has a fun and quick, yet very hard to use, ‘modeling’ brush. I like the controlled randomness the brush has.

I think mypaint works great for sketching on the computer when a pen and pencil are not available.

Still Life 9 – The Monster In My Glass

monster dino in glass or pure doom and hate and lust for doom

As strange as it looks. It IS a still life painting. For a school art project I was taking apart cheap $1 toys and then putting them back to together as a mash-up. Dr. Frankenstein would have been proud. One of my creations was a stegosaurus centaur. Unfortunately I messed up when gluing it and the poor thing fell apart. the only parts that stayed together (barley) was the neck/head and the torso. I thought it would be cool to use my florescent light as the only main lighting source. Well.. it over-saturated all the colors. This was extremely hard for me to paint because every color was at both a high saturation and value. I finally gave up and added a lower value blue.  I will only use the florescent light for fill lighting from now on.

Daily Painting No.26- Self Portrait as a Dragon

dragon self portrait 2

If you ever want a challenge yourself as a artist: try to draw yourself as some animal or creature, yet still make it look somewhat like you. Bonus points if non-mammalian.  It’s mind numbing, and a bit creepy. A fellow artist told be to check out your progress, you should reexplore a piece you did in the past and recreate it. I tried a self portrait like this about a year ago https://maugryph.com/2012/10/24/dragon-self-portrait/. I think I have improved substantially. Since I only spent about a hour and 10 minutes on this portrait. Last year’s portrait I had spent about 3-4 hours, and it looks very lame.  Does this look like me, you ask? Well.. the eyes do at least. Frankly it looks somewhat like my dragon character/mascot I been drawing forever except with my eyes. (Note: To all dragon slayers and brave knights. I’m not a dragon, plz don’t slay me. This guy on the other hand… there is a weak spot in his scale armor on his left breast FYI (thanks Bilbo))

Self critique: The left side of his face, the lighting needs fixing, his fins are too dark. The fin on his mandible blends into his neck and needs to be fixed.

Iguana Portrait, Front Facing

iguana portait monster iguana figure face alien monsterious figuringe creepint painting digital artwork art black and white photoshop

For today’s portrait I painted  the facing view of a Marine Iguana. It looks quite monstrous and alien when it is facing you directly. Me just drawing the face and not the entire body doesn’t help.  It reminds me of Jabba the Hut. It has some errors, but I’m too tired to fix them. Painted it entirely in Photoshop with a wacom tablet. Time spent on the artwork, about 50 minutes
