I’ve returned to the monster painting project. I thought it would be best something furn. This was painted inArtrage. I found out how to turn the ‘3d’ effect off the paints. This helped me blend the color more like I would in Photoshop. Speaking of photoshop, Artrage’s solution to masks is ‘stencils’ and they are driving me crazy, I keep accidentally moving them and cant find a way to lock them. I am happy with this quick painting and am getting closer to thinking like a painter.
My monster for Sunday. I could push this even more if I could keep my eyes open… I have the night owl curse,. I skipped doing monsters on Friday and Saturday. There just wasn’t enought time to paint due to the plans I had this weekend. Starting this week, I will work on a monster for two days instead of one. The first day will be research, prelims, and sketches (which will be uploaded). The second day will be the actual painting.
I don’t know what dark side of my brain this abomination came from.
I was experimenting in mypaint, an open source paint app. I has a fun and quick, yet very hard to use, ‘modeling’ brush. I like the controlled randomness the brush has.
I think mypaint works great for sketching on the computer when a pen and pencil are not available.
The daily monster painting has been a two edged sword. It’s given me the motivation to paint and explore but because of time restraints I do not have time to fully research material for my subjects. This means the anatomy and potential variations suffer. I will try to figure something out. For example I love the face but the clothing is very plain because I had time to skech armadillos but not any time to research clothing. I might lengthen the project to give me a extra day to do some research and prelims for each character.
I paused Super Smash Brothers and painted this in Art Academy (3DS). This is Marth (the man on the right.. yes.. he is a guy). He is the protagonist in the first two Fire Emblem games and is a fan favorite. It’s difficult to do detail work in AC. It’s still a great app. It won’t replace Colors 3D but maybe I can import my paintings into Colors 3d and do the detail work in that program.
