Another one of my animation assignments:
Speed environment painting 3. This could be a contender for a finished painting yet I still have 27 to go, that might change. I enjoyed painting the mountains and the crow. This painting is far from finished, yet I like that you can indicate a human structure with just a few strokes. Like the birds flying around the castle. it’s just a few dots.
Technically this was environment painting 4 but yesterdays attempt to paint a environment painting was so bad I decided to save your eyesight by not showing it. I’m pretending day 3 didn’t happen and moving on. Drawing a midnight might not be the best idea 😀

Non art related: Anyone remember the game Earthbound? Nintendo is finally going to re release it on Virtual Console at the end of the year for both US and European markets. Of course they said that they where going to do that a few years ago. It would be nice to play it, hopefully Nintendo will live up to it’s promise this time.
This is what the game looks like. A Dragon Quest like RPG game set in the Modern World
3d model WIP model for Cruze that ‘other’ protagonist. Cruz is the more spontaneous, easy going type compared to Alex who is all ‘Serious Business'(I can’t believe I quoted a meme, no wonder I am forever alone 🙂 ). In the design process I decided shorts would be the best choice for Cruze to wear, because my friend, rain, snow, or shine will be wearing shorts! His ancestry must have polar bear genes. The shoes are place holders and will be changed.

Portrait of the fictional Character Booker Dewitt, the protagonist of Bioshock Infinite. I haven’t played the game yet and the only two decent references I could find was the box art and a concept image. Wanted to draw Booker at a different angle and different lighting, since it has little benefit for me to just copy someone’s painting. It was a more difficult painting aft first until I found the official concept art . Booker looks very anime-ish in the concept art, I attempted to render him more realistically in my painting.
This weeks portrait theme will be fictional characters in video games.

Introducing Asgaut the Viking. This is one of my experimental projects much like my daily head portraits. I want to do something that I haven’t done before, tell a short story in sequential art (comics). I’ve done comics in the past but they where either one panel gags or one page strips, but I would loose interest in them. I’ve been working for months on very epic story that would take pages and pages to tell in words let alone frames, but it is beyond me to create at this moment due to my lack experience in posing action shots. So I am putting that project on the backburner. I just wanted to actually MAKE a comic with a simple story that will take no more then a couple dozen pages. A comic that will start and end. It will be drawn in black and white, no color. I have written the script for each page already. Now all I need to do is draw the pages. I will start drawing them today. My goal is to get at least two pages done a week. If I can get 5-6 heads drawn a week, I should be able to get at least two pages done. Starting out small so I can actually finish something for a change :D. This painting is pretty boring but it is simply a ref for me to use when drawing the character. Later I will paint a more polished work of him doing something interesting. Added a Page

Today’s daily portrait – a CID officer in a helicopter. I have in the past drawn ancient armor and outfits. I thought it would be fun tackle a modern soldier’s outfit and helmet. I spent about a hour painting it in Artrage. I used the roller brush for the background and the oil brush for the officer.
The photo reference I used is from the U.S Army available as public domain. I liked the anonymity of the officer in the picture. I honestly don’t know alto about CID. I just liked the picture.

Just kidding :D. The name for this painting is ‘Later Gator’. Originally this was going to be a portrait of a alligator similar to the crocodile portrait I have painted before. But after a frustrating start I became silly and got .. carried away. That cheesy B-Movie ‘Alligator People’ was a source of inspiration. Like my vignette background?
Here is the reference I used for the alligator head. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:*Big*_Walking_Gator_at_lake_Woodruff.jpg. The reference for the hoodie was one of my own photos.

I wanted to try eastern style armor tonight. I getting tired of painting in just grayscale so I thought I would paint with blue tones. Kinda matches my mood at the moment. I was pleased to find a model that was actually wearing armor to use as a reference. Although I personally think it might be a dummy, the reference photo is too blurry for sure. Here is the link. I was going to use watercolor but it was just painting a light light white stroke before starting the color, no matter what color I used. I couldn’t figure out why, it could be because I primed the canvas first? Also I had fun painting the face to be more sinister.

Non art related: I have been in the mood to watch animation lately. Currently the Cartoon Network and Warner Bros tried to do the unthinkable, reboot the Looney Toons.. again. we all know what happened last time they did this. Could it get any worse? Thankfully no. ‘The Looney Toons Show’ is actually pretty decent. Although I’m not a fan of the the new way the characters look, it is actually funny.. quite often in fact. Although it’s humor and jokes are setup more like a animated sitcom like the Simpsons or the Family Guy. It’s all situation comedy and hardly uses the one thing that Looney Toons is famous for… slapstick comedy. this is the most disappointing aspect of the show. However the interaction between Bugs and Daffy are spot on even if the other characters are somewhat weak. Still recommend checking it out. It won’t replace the originals though. You can watch them online on Cartoon Network if you have cable ( I know that doesn’t make sense but that is how Cartoon Network rolls)
