Hello my WordPress friends. I’ve been busy dealing with sickness and a couple deaths in our family. This month I’ve been working through it by working on commissions and a 3D model that I will make dance. Sorry for not responding. Will return to blog in a couple days to upload new work.
Because I hate the idea leaving just a image-less blog post,I did this drawing of a Zekrom wearing a Turkish outfit. Why did I draw this? I have no idea.
Finally, its done after 10-12 hours of work. A commissioned piece forJDSAIDSO. It’s based on a dream where he was a brown lucario in Super Smash Bros. I was a charizard in his dream (I didn’t do much). He was able to easily defeat the other fighters, except one; Luigi. The smiling plumber was immune to his attacks and laughed at him repeatedly.
I did this sketch of the lovable green dinosaur Yoshi, and his sickeningly cute companion Poochy. I didn’t have time to draw them as thread, unfortunately. My friend Cruz bought “Yoshi’s Woolly World’ the other day and wanted to play it, 8 hours later it was midnight and just starting the 5 world. That is when we collapsed. We finished the game in a couple hours the next day.
So what to do I think of it?
Its basically the same as Yoshi’s Island with a cool fabric / wool aesthetic similar to Kirby’s Epic Yarn. It is a platform game where you can swallow enemies and turn them into yarn to throw as projectiles.
You play as a Yoshi (it’s both a dino race and a singular character) trying to rescue the other yoshis that where kidnapped and turned into wool thread (don’t ask) by the evil koopa wizard Kemak. I only played it in co-op so far.
Very little has changed from previous Yoshi Island games with the big exception that BABY MARIO IS NOT IN IT! THANK ARCEUS! In the earlier games, baby Mario rode on your back. If you got hurt, Mario would fly off your back, giving you 10 seconds to capture him. Instead of getting ten seconds to save a baby with the most ear wrenching cry ever before ‘dying’, you simply get a life bar.
The graphics are very impressive, the fabric look is just adorable, everything, including the enemies look the like something you would see at a craft fair.
It was truly a blast to play with my friend in CO-OP. Sometimes it was advantageous, other times he would accidentally swallow me and spit me out into a pit and then say opps :/. Since I am good with platform games I could help my friend, I could hold my friend in my mouth and get past the area he was having trouble with and spit him out. (that sentence sounded strange but we are both yoshis in the game and ‘friendly fire’ is enabled with no way of turning it off)
Now for the disappointing things: the boss battles are way too easy, in fact we only died once fighting the giant plant boss. The camera also has a mind of it’s own.
The game itself is a bit on the easy side, however, the game clocks in around 12 hours if you blitz it which is a decent length for it’s kind. Not to mention all the secrets could add a few more hours to the length
For my advanced animation class I decided to tackle special effects. The movie contains 4 short scenes using effects made in After Effects. No third party tools where used.
Turtle breathing fire.
Columns in the sky with eastern dragon
Man’s head exploding
Effects title card with Tri-Force
I have decided that before I program my epic RPG, I should do a few simpler games first. First up is ‘Evil Eye’. Guide the eye to the blue pad! The intinal release has 16 levels and can be compleated in 10 to 20 minutes depending on how good you are with puzzle games. Try to get the lowest score by blitzing the game. The lower the score the more epic you are. If people like this game I will continue working on it. I will ads more levels and a leaderboards with fastest times in the future.
Please note. This game has NO ads, in app purchases, or any other freemium bs.
This game will work in any browser, even mobile phones and tablets. Note: you need a phone with a decent size screen to play this. I would recommend playing on a computer or tablet.
Timer for speedruns
Gravity based puzzles
Can play the game on any browser
How to play: click on yellow shapes to destroy them. Do this to manipulate gravity and guide the eye to the blue panel.
These are the games that I love and had a great impact on me. These are games that I have played many times (It is extremely rare I will play a game more then once). Feel free to recommend to me any awesome games in the comments section. Please don’t ask me why I didn’t put ‘your favorite game’ on this list but feel free to recommend the game to check out.
Also forgive my crazy grammar and lousy journalism. I’m an artist, not a novelist. I am also tired. I will learn English one day. This list will be updated when I learn to read.
So let’s start the countdown:
11- The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind
Fantastic world design, and a deep leveling system made this game a addiction! I got to play as a scaly lizard, few RPGs give you that option.
10- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Long before Elders Scrolls, this was the first action RPGs that made me feel like I was exploring a world. The ‘Dark World” was a pleasant surprise. I’m certain there is a dragon in there somewhere..
9- Super Metroid
I love open games that let me explore, Metroid was one of the first to get me addicted to ‘metroidvania’ genre. It also has Ripley in it, a space dragon.. don’t say anything..
8-Final Fantasy X
I was torn between which FF game to add to this list but Final Fantasy X won out with it’s fantastic story and ‘sphere’ like leveling system. The soundtrack still haunts my soul. It also has dragons in it (I am sensing a pattern)
Deus Ex was the first shooter that made me realize a shooter can be deep and more the just putting bullets into everything. (I want dragons!)
Has one of the greatest plot twists in any video game. My mouth dropped to the floor. (Wheres the dragons?!)
5-Amnesia: The Dark Decent
One the few games that truly terrorized me. The face of the monster is so horrifying I will never get it out of my cranium. (There is no dragons in it, disappointing… This joke is starting to dragon..)
4- Super Mario Kart
Mode 7 never looked so good. I can still eat ‘Rainbow Road’ for breakfast. (Bowser is kinda a dragon turtle thing..)
3- Dark Souls
Brutal but fair, a fantastic game that acutely improves your gaming skills You will die a lot but it is far from impossible. I’ve Beat it twice so far. I still use Mega Ornstine’s name as a swear word. (ps: it has a dragon it. Note to self: seek medical help)
2- Chrono Trigger
A great story with fantastic music, and a cast of characters you actually gave a damn about. To bad they botched the series with the sequel. (Here be dragons!)
1- Shadow of the Colossus
A deep emotional game with fantastic atmosphere. The more colossi you kill, the more you question if you are doing the right thing. The game fills you with guilt from slaying these majestic beasts. If you don’t feel guilty killing the 13th colossus, you have no soul. The music is truly haunting. I’ve played this game at least 10 times, I still feel guilty killing the Colossi to this day. I still hate the @#$# horse. (If there was a dragon in it, I would pay it to eat the horse) AGRO!!!!!!!
Honorable Mentions of commercial games that I think are fantastic:
Dark Souls II – If Demon Souls and Darks Souls had a baby – This would be it’s offspring.
Metal Gear Solid – A ‘solid’ entry in the series. derp derp.
Kings Field VI (A 3d Dark Souls no one has ever played)
Silent Hill 2 – Men with Pyramid heads scare me
ICO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – It’s like shadow of the Colossus.. minus the colossus…
Half Life – The Freeman will save us all!
Devil May Cry – Dante might not cry but you will.
Final Fantasy 6 – Still better then FF7
Final Fantasy 9 – Its like six but it’s nine!
Final Fantasy 7 (PS1 version) – I love it but it’s still insanely overrated.
Dragon Quest (It has dragons in it YAY!)
Portal – The cake is truth.
Castlevania : Symphony of the Night -One castlevainia to rule them all!!
The Dark Spire – A love letter to Wizardy
Chrono Cross (A love-hate relationship)
Braid – Your a monster!
Limbo – Doing silhouettes before silhouettes where cool
Resident Evil 4 – Fantastic game, made the GameCube worth buying… what!? they have a PS2 version as well?! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Halo 3 – Only because JD will kill me if I do not list it here.
Halo 3 ODST – A Hub based Halo!? Someone pinch me! I must be dreaming!
Metroid Prime Trilogy – Metroidvaina in 3d
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon – A rouge-like Pokemon. Sign me up!
Wizardry 5 (SNES) – This game still drives me crazy
Mega Man Legends 2 – Hey! There is Metroidvaina in my Mega Man!
Skyrim – I only like it because it has dragons in it… Seriously.
Omimusha: Warlords – the ending was ‘eye popping!’ lol!
Super Hexagon – Dark Souls: Arcade edition
Kings Quest 4 – when point and click adventures where for manly men (and women)
Wolfenstine 3D – Basically Doom.
The Secret of Monkey Island – I miss Lucasarts 😦 Curse you Disney!
Commercial Games I do not like:
The Call of Duty games – Gives ‘repetition’ and ‘hand holding’ a new meaning. Multiplayer is fun though.
Any mobile game made by EA – Lets just hope your not a whale.
Halo 1,2, and 4 -So sue me fan boys.
GTA 3 and GTA 4 – How can ‘perfection’ be so boring?
Final Fantasy 7 (PC)- I was unfortunate enough to buy the PC version, it is a buggy mess. It’s nice to see Square Enix care about it’s PC fans (Sarcasm). Still leaves a sour taste in my mouth
Every Angry Birds sequel – The casual Call of Duty. It’s a shame Angry Birds is a one trick pony.
