Portrait of Artist Anna Schuleit
A speed portrait I did of artist Anna Schuleit, a artist in New York who paints some nice abstract paintings. Her website is http://annaschuleit.wordpress.com/
I had some issues with the teeth but I think they came out decent.

Self Portrait (for real this time)
I painted this in Artrage. I figured out how to used the watercolor brush but halfway decided I didn’t like the look of it so I switched back to the oil brush. There is some mistakes, I made the nose a bit too long. I choose yellow as the color to paint with, it made me look like vampire so after I was done painting it I opened it in Photoshop and adjusted the hue of the painting to have a more natural flesh tone. . And it looks more like a young version of my dad then me. I still liked how it came out though.

I was almost tempted to give this post the title ‘Self Portrait as a Alligator’ to continue my silliness from my last post but decided against it.
Speaking of silliness: Deviant Art has now jump started a new dating service called ‘Deviant Heart’: A dating service for artist. This has to be a April Fools joke.. I hope..
Iguana Portrait 2
After drawing a front facing iguana that resembled Jabba the Hut’s brother. I decided to have another go at painting a Iquana. I used this photo for my reference. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Iguana_1y.jpg Unfortunately the picture was taking with a flash, so it had direct lighting. So decided to paint the light coming from the upper left for a more interesting painting. I didn’t get as obsessed with the scales with the last painting. It’s still a little rough. Since I spent only 30 minutes on this paining, and I allocate a 1 hour for each head portrait every day, I might come to this in the future and refine it more.

Portrait 15
I was out of town for work so I wasn’t able to draw portraits for two days. I started up again, and I feel rusty, I constantly had perspective issues and had to fix placement of the features a few times, had to repaint the eyes twice. I was so behind I didn’t even get to finish the ear or add hair. I need to find more refs of woman that I can use for my projects. I’ve used a 3d model for reference for this painting (I used her as a ref for portrait 6 as well) . I rather draw from life but can’t afford a model. I can’t just use Google Images because that would infringe on copyrights and I just don’t trust Morguefile.com. So if you know a good, cheep stock photo site, let me know. I might start asking friends if I could paint their faces, I guess.
Portrait, Woman Looking to side, Distracted
Portrait, Male, Dynamic Lighting
To keep things fresh, this painting I tried a more dynamic lighting. I took a picture of myself in a dark room with my webcam with the lighting source my computer monitor on the side. I used that as the reference for this painting. I found this painting to be frustrating. First I painted it on a black canvas. I’m used to painting on a grey canvas. Second, since most of the face was in darkness, I had trouble figuring out shape placement and in my shame had to repaint or move parts around. In the photo I look calm and mysterious. In my finished painting I feel I look menacing. I’m not happy with it. Spent around 45 minutes on it before retiring the painting.

Head Portrait – Male, Chubby Cheeks, Warm Smile (Value Sketch Painting)
I been trying to paint one head each day to improve. I try not to go over a hour for each painting, since this is more a exercise to improve my art. I try to put most of my energy into the main focal area of the face, which is the eyes, eyebrows, nose and mouth. The hair and ears seem to get left behind, hopefully I will get faster so I can start to finish those areas. The reference for this head is one of my friends.
