QuickHorror Key Art

Quickhorror key art 10 flattened crop3

Here is the key art that I did for QuickHorror. It will be used at a promotional image for the beta/prototype distribution. I want to give a dark feel. I really wanted to paint the entire monster in the painting but then it take some mystery out of the game. The monster in the game is rendered in a way that you cant get a clear shot of it. I will release a trailer tomorrow, and a press release on Wednesday.

I’m hoping I can upload the game to IndieDB, GameJolt, an another indie game server tonight. It will only have the procedural generated levels but that alone should give a player hours of game play. If enough people like the game, I will Kickstart it. I’m excited and terrified. I’ve never promoted my games before.

Concept Art – Update to Alex Harkenstone and Derric Skycaster

After a day or so, I need to review my paintings to see if there are any adjustments and fixes needed. My two concept art paintings where a bit over saturated and some parts where still a little rough. Alex needed more color in her cheeks. I also experimented with a rim lighting to attempt to make the forms more readable in the shadows. As for my draco Derric, I found that there wasn’t enough interest in his face so I added more details to try to push the design. I also finished his feet. I have not yet designed a outfit I am pleased with, so he remains in a loincloth for now. I did color adjustments in both paintings. I fidget with color allot because I have not clue yet. I am relatively new in using color and am fighting my way though. I paid for a Color theory course at conceptart.com but haven’t been able to watch it yet. I will take a break from Derric and start working on Asgaunt and Prof. Notch in the future.

6 hours on Alex. 8 hours on Derric. Painted in Photoshop using a wacom tablet. Any input is welcome.

Daily Painting No.78 – Alex Hawkenstone (Concept Art)

alex heroine reporter plaid shirt golden blond hair female hero

I finally completed a painting of Alex Hawkenstone, the main protagonist of my story. I went though many color experiments with the clothing to get something I was satisfied with. She is a norden, a people that live in the snowy mountains of the north.  She is no warrior, has no super powers, cannot cast a spell, nor can she shape shift. However, she has her wits about her at all times. Something she puts to use with eerie precision. She starts out uncertain of herself, but gains confidence throughout the story. I want her to grow with the reader. This is less of a coming of age story. It is more about ordinary people put into epic and extraordinary circumstances, and coming out on top. I painted it in Photoshop using a drawing tablet. It took about four hours total to paint. five hours if you count researching the clothing.

update: adjusted the colors from cool to warm to better match her personality.

The Dragon’s Bride (Work in Progress)

I haven’t painted anything resembling a story for a while. So I took a breather from painting a portrait today, and did this hour speed painting. It very rough and has small errors that need to be addressed, I’m very happy with the composition and will finish the painting sometime in the future.

This painting asks the question: If a betrothed’s mate got turned into a hideous creature but still remained ‘him/herself’ inside. Could the person get past the grotesque form of the betrothed or would the mate abandon him/her to his misery? Can love be that deep? We know the answer for this heroine.

Let me know what your think 🙂
