Mobile Sketches for the week of 7-1

Doodles week of 7-1

To be honest. I should have sketched more. But I lost my grandma on Monday so I wasn’t in the mood to do much of anything this week.

The best digital sketches I did last week on my Computer Tablet

digital doodles 6-22

Instead of loading up 20 sketches to the blog, I thought it would be more economical (and less annoying to my readers) to pick the best of the bunch and arrange them on to one page. Most are sketches of people I see around my local mall. It’s challenging because most of the time there is only a few seconds to put everything down before the person moves.

Senshi Playing a Violin (D24)

senshi-playing-violin

I’ve finished uploading to my Deviant Art page. The great artists on that siteĀ  me jolted me. I realized that, although i draw ok monsters, I need to work on my humans, and drawing things from life in general.Thankfully DA has many wonderful models that allow artists to use their photos for reference and study. One is Senshi of Senshistock.

I painted her face more toony so not to get too caught up in facial details.. and might have over done it. I was too tired to finished the legs so now they look like they where ripped off… zombie

I might try a costumed character tomorrow. Sorry if this painting is shit, it will take me a few of these studies to get back into the grove of drawing people.

Character 3 – Paintball Warrior (Final)

character-study-3-v3

Here is a much more refined painting/ sketch. I plan on taking the time on my future characters. I’ve been down a bit with my art. It made me feel good that I can still paint. What I discovered from this drawing is to do passes. First block in the main shapes with a big brush, then shrink your brush about half and do another pass and add smaller shapes and so on. Once you get to a really small brush, put your effort in the focal points of your image.

I only used one brush. It is a custom round brush, the only difference to that of a normal round, is that I added transfer and put a super light texture onto the brush. I disabled brush size pressure because I have less control and I’m not inking lines. I find it’s best to have either brush pressure size or brush pressure transparency on. But not both, because it adds another element you have to deal with. Keep things simple.

I spent 3-4 hours on this painting. Image reference was by erian_stock.

Character 3 (Wip) part 2

Still working on this. It’s been hard to focus the last couple days. I will attempt to finish it tomorrow.

Note to self: starting with a big brush and after every pass shrinking the brush size by half a very effective method. Last brush size is 10

Portrait of Artist Anna Schuleit

portrait painting anna Schuleit black and white

A speed portraitĀ  I did of artist Anna Schuleit, a artist in New York who paints some nice abstract paintings. Her website is http://annaschuleit.wordpress.com/
I had some issues with the teeth but I think they came out decent.
