For today’s daily I did a toon version of this enemy in the game Destiny because I’m too brain dead tonight to come up with something out of my head.

Using my custom word generator to inspire ideas. This is my painting of “Eagle, Mushroom/Spore, Malachite”. I took my time on this one. I’m applying what I’m learned from the ‘Magic Box’ course to improve the atmospheric lighting of the piece. 4-5 hours or work. Sorry for posting so much today. My internet has been down for days and now I’m playing catchup.
Update: The lighting on the tail was too distracting so I dimmed it.

Some planar head studies. The first two kinda suck but I got in the zone with the last four. Pokemon and Video Game Characters are fun but I need be more balanced and do some studies along with the fun stuff (good luck with myself balancing that o_0)

Still working on this. It’s been hard to focus the last couple days. I will attempt to finish it tomorrow.
Note to self: starting with a big brush and after every pass shrinking the brush size by half a very effective method. Last brush size is 10
From now on, every still life painting will have stomach turning punny title.
A still life study of a bear skull I saw at a zoo. 30 minutes is not enough time to paint something as complex as this. I should of done a cool down and done some blending.

Dragon Saturday is.. wait.. I already said that..
My first digital still life painting. Although a simple vase might not be to most exciting subject to look at, to me it is invaluable. I must admit I learned more from doing this study about light then I ever have in a book or tutorial. I saw occlusion shadows, and rim lighting, light reflections on the surface, and other things that I would of never painted out of my head, but now am aware of. It’s exciting to observe such things critically and attempt to render it. It’s addicting to ‘carve’ form with lights and shadows. So this exercise is more enjoyable on my end. I bought my still life objects at a thrift store and spray painted them with a flat white paint. I painted this with Photoshop on a wacom tablet. I will start out with one object, then I will start doing clusters of objects when I feel I’m ready. I feel stupid for not painting digital still life images in the past, I would of progress faster as a artist if I would of done so. I will alternate from studies to still life paintings to dragons so I don’t bore you to death.

After struggling to draw Gina yesterday, I decided to take it easy and draw a dragon. experimented with the lasso tool in creating the silhouette. I wasn’t happy with it so I messed with the warp tool and made a totally different dragon I was happy with. the warp tool is fun. . Video in Real time, not sped up.
