Zion (Env 5)

landscape-zion-12-8-2016

Today’s environment painting is inspired by the Zion National Park. I experimented with various brushes with this painting. I feel like I’m loosing up and these studies are less intimidating.  Reference photo for painting came from Wikimedia Commons.

Alex the Dragon Sketch

alex-bordum-painting

A painting sketch of my dragon Alex (I haven’t drawn him in a long time) I spent more time on it then I was expecting. I did a decent job with the wings but got stuck for a while with painting the muscles attaching the wing to the shoulder and the neck area. I think it came out alright but it would have been better to have some reference on hand instead of drawing out of my imagination. I used Artrage to paint this.

Daily Paint 12 – Charizard!!

charizard realistic dragon life simular diaiy paint

Charmander’s final evolution or ‘adult’ form.  I gave him a more ‘dragon’ look. My favorite Pokemon next to Rayquaza. I am actually pleased with today’s daily. Took one hour to paint.  Fun random pointless fact: Did you know that despite looking like a dragon, Charizard is not considered a dragon type ,However his temporary mega evolution is considered a dragon type. Nintendo logic.

Creature Feature 1- Nectoar

creature concept art test speedy monster eat hole shark dragagon

The story of the Nectoar : the nectoar is a stone creature that lives in the abandoned mountains. It is said that it’s voice could crush rock miles a way and that it’s stare could turn a person to stone! it has quick strong legs that can catch up to any thing in a instant! It’s thick helmet shaped head protects the brain. it’s only weak spot is it’s fleshly red underbelly and it is the only way you can slay a nectoar. It has a sensitive pod above it’s head it uses as a third eye.

After watching a very motivating video on creativity (I will search for link when I can). It made a point that stuck with me. If you want to do something, you must simply do it, sounds simple right? So why doesn’t it happen? There are some that want to be writers but they never write due to fears and other hangups. But a writer does one thing every day without letup…. they write! So if you want to be a writer, you must write! Doesn’t matter how good or bad your are, if you want to be something, you MUST be it. Every day. Without letup. People like to use the popular excuse ‘I have no talent to do that’. Talent is overrated. Hard work and passion for you subject gets you places. NOT talent. Some skills might take years to learn well, but if it is your passion, make yourself dredge through it! The more you do something the better you become at it. The more you love it.

I have done this with being a artist, every day I draw, paint, and teach myself. I still have a ways to go (what artist doesn’t?), but it doesn’t matter, it is my passion to draw and paint. In just the last 4 months you can see a clear improvement in my skills. However I realized if i want to become a concept artist.. shouldn’t I create concept art? I draw allot of dragons, critters and still life paintings but very few designs. I’ve decided that along with my still life project I should create a critter a day. No excuses. I started creating creatures four days ago, this is the first design that is not too shabby. I write a short story about a creature and them paint it. Unlike my Still life paintings I will not upload every creature I create because..frankly most suck right now :D. I also do some quick daily storyboards as well of story ideas the pass through my reptilian brain. I now set aside 2 hours a day for studies, its called my Art block.

I spent 2 hours on this painting.

Daily Painting No.98 – Water Snake Sketch

snake-monster-2

I am not to happy with this painting, Although I do like the triad colors I had chosen. It was originally going to be a cartoon cobra but I was in the wrong mood to paint that night so I ended up with this hideous thing. I spent a hour and 10 minutes painting this. I didn’t do any preliminary stuff like thumbnails and references. I am a idiot.

Daily Painting No.56 – I’m gonna toast ya!!

12-26-2013--im-gonna-pound-ya

Wait for it.. I painted a daily painting… WITHOUT A DRAGON IN IT!.. and the painting is.. IN COLOR!!!.. please don’t faint, I’m too lazy to catch you.  And yet I still made the monster able to breath fire.. go figure. 🙂 I stole the glowing fire tummy idea from the Hobbit movie, who in turn blatantly ripped off from World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. :O. Originally the monster was going think like the Hulk.. you know “ME HULK SMASH PUNY MAN” . But then I ADDED COLOR, so I need to make the picture more interesting. So I made it think more like the Hulk. you know “Me HULK BURN PUNY MAN! I SAY THAT’S SMASHING!” Did I mention that I painted it in color? This painting was purely out of my imagination. Photoshop. Time spent 1 hour 10 min. Done be surprised if I continue this painting on Saturday. I also painted this in color.
