Project Night Prototype Footage

So much work yet so much more to do.

Project night is an adventure game I’ve been working on and off for the last four months.I am creating the game with Unity using C# and Mono. All models where made in Blender. Music was made in ThumbJam and Audacity. It still has a way to go. Still has some glitches in the AI.

I have set up an official blog for the game: https://projectnightgame.wordpress.com. That’s a WIP as well.

Hacking away at the painting. Little by little. Added a figure to give a sense of scale. Might add more wildlifre

Jungle Ruins (D40)

ruins painting in jungle digital

I felt better and wanted to work on a painting. I’ve been in an artistic knot for some time now and haven been happy with my work. One of the main reasons is because I stopped doing long periods of sketching and and not putting in the hours needed to improve on a regular basis.

Granted, I have been busy with a new job and working on commissions. Also trying to to learn Javascript and SEO/marking for my new job. Taking time to work on sketching and painting instead of playing games or wasting time on the net in my spare time.  But an artist must not just draw what they feel comfortable  with and must push further work further.

So here we are. I found a complex CC image of ruins on Flickr and did a painting based on it

I might finish it tomarrow.

For encouragement I’ve been watching tutorial videos on Pluralsight and returned to Oatley Academy’s Magic Box

I got some good advice from a couple youtube video interviews from artists and I would like to share them with you:

The 20/80 rule – doing 20 percent of the foundationial work correctly will effect 80 percent of the outcome. you could also see it as 20 refs, studies, and blocking in, 80 clean up and detail work.

Only be as fast as you can be accurate. Take your time, if you make mistake after mistake, it will start to build into a painting full of errors. Don’t fall into the trap of ‘speed painting’.

I you don enjoy a subject, why paint it, because if you don’t like what you’re drawing, people will get that when looking at the image.

‘Straits against curves’, it’s a cool line technique to avoid a sketch from having sameness

My goals as an artist is to slow down, take note of correct proportions, and search for the ‘character’ in everything I draw and to paint with a story in mind, even if is minuscule.

The Sea Serpent (D22) (Wip)

ten songs painting wip

While I don’t usually try to mix my dailies with my projects, I’m so busy that I kind of have to from now on. This painting is a WIP . There are some elements that I haven’t decided yet, like if she should be holding a egg or a pearl. If it was an egg it wouldn’t be the sea dragon’s because it’s too small.

The art will be used for my next music album “10 Songs”, a project I’ve been working of an on since I finished Alptraum.

Building and Prop Concept Art for Leviathan

My first pass concept sketches for Leviathan. I might not have time for a second pass because the game needs to be completed in two weeks. I going to do a quick environment painting and then I must start working on the level and models.

The Monster – Textured Model (WIP)

monster video game model

The monster is getting there, I just need to clean up some texture spots. I made the creature modular so parts can be added and removed with ease. I did this so if I wanted to expand the game afterwards, I can make monster variations. A similar idea for the building will be used. I spent about ten hours to twelve on the model.

It’s ready to be animated. I did some tests and was successful in getting my animated monster into the game engine:

I know that doesn’t sound impressive, but took me a couple hours due to an issue with the engine reading the files from my modeling software. However the same model file popped into Unity with ease. Go figure.
